75TH Birthday

A great weekend was had by all as my dad celebrated his 75th birthday with his wife and four girls coming in to town as a surprise :-)

It was a time of fun, laughter, family, love, deep conversations, a bit of outlet mall shopping and food.

97 and Counting

A shout out to my grandmother who turned 97 yesterday.  She has been an inspiration to me throughout the years.  I have been blessed.

June

I can not believe it is June already!  This year has flown by.  There have been busy days, slow days, joyful days, sad days; however, the Lord has been with me through all of the days.

Summer is looming in the distance, creeping ever closer.  I am not a fan of the heat but I enjoy the flora and fauna of summer!

Each weekend this month is brimming with activity ~ from Bible Studies to Graduations to Birthdays...

April Days

It’s mid-April and the earth is coming alive.  Trees, bushes and flowers are blooming.

I’ve joined a co-worker in taking 10 minute walks outside three times a day ~ invigorating!  We are keeping each other accountable and enjoying every minute of it.

After my week vacation in late March, I celebrated my birthday.  What a blessing the people around me are!  They made my birthday extra-special.  I love that Google does the special "birthday" logo when it is your birthday -- the above was what I got :-)

My daughter is turning 25 on Sunday.  Thinking of my baby girl turning a quarter of a century old makes me realize my age as well – lol!  She is such a blessing to me and has married a wonderful man.  I am honored to have them in my life.  I thank the Lord each day for them both.

I just finished the first half of a great class taught by our Teaching Pastor.  The knowledge he has shared has been amazing and will be beneficial in the future as I make this Christian journey of life.

April 1st: A Day of Contemplation

It is my birthday; I am 47 years old and I wonder how I got here :~)

I am blessed with knowing Christ as my Lord and Saviour.  I have family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances whom are a part of my life and make my life sweet.

Life is ever-changing and I am glad to have a sturdy foundation in the Lord.

Surprises are Awesome

Woohoo ~ our surprise birthday get together for my Dad was fabulous!  He had no idea when he walked in Saturday morning.  All his daughters (4) were there, his wife, his two sisters and we were able to skype with his brother.  What a great time was had by all ~ fellowship and food.  The weather was a bit crazy, rain and wind pretty much the whole time I was there (Wed-Mon).  My aunt was able to catch this picture on Saturday!

My Precious Bundle

Twenty-three years ago on Thursday, December 13, 1990 at 2:02 p.m. the Lord blessed me with a 3lbs. 1oz. precious bundle of joy!  Happy Birthday to my daughter.  She has been and continues to be a source of joy in my life.

Precursors of April Fools' Day include the Roman festival of Hilaria, held March 25,[2] and the Medieval Feast of Fools, held December 28,[3] still a day on which pranks are played in Spanish-speaking countries.

In Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (1392), the "Nun's Priest's Tale" is set Syn March bigan thritty dayes and two.[4] Modern scholars believe that there is a copying error in the extant manuscripts and that Chaucer actually wrote, Syn March was gon.[5] Thus, the passage originally meant 32 days after April, i.e. May 2,[6] the anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia, which took place in 1381. Readers apparently misunderstood this line to mean "March 32", i.e. April 1.[7] In Chaucer's tale, the vain cock Chauntecleer is tricked by a fox.

In 1508, French poet Eloy d'Amerval referred to a poisson d’avril (April fool, literally "April fish"), a possible reference to the holiday.[8] In 1539, Flemish poet Eduard de Dene wrote of a nobleman who sent his servants on foolish errands on April 1.[6] In 1686, John Aubrey referred to the holiday as "Fooles holy day", the first British reference.[6] On April 1, 1698, several people were tricked into going to the Tower of London to "see the Lions washed".[6]

In the Middle Ages, up until the late 18th century, New Year's Day was celebrated on March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation) in most European towns.[9] In some areas of France, New Year's was a week-long holiday ending on April 1.[2][3] Many writers suggest that April Fools originated because those who celebrated on January 1 made fun of those who celebrated on other dates.[2] The use of January 1 as New Year's Day was common in France by the mid-16th century,[6] and this date was adopted officially in 1564 by the Edict of Roussillon.

A study in the 1950s, by folklorists Iona and Peter Opie, found that in the UK and those countries whose traditions derived from there, the joking ceased at midday.[10] But this practice appears to have lapsed in more recent years.

Today is also my birthday :-) The picture is to show my new cap that my sister got me for my birthday. I never thought hats worked very well for me; however, so far, everyone seems to like this one on my head!  (Yep, took it in the mirror at work in the bathroom; lol)
